Woman injured by alleged meth lab; 4 others arrested Print E-mail

(WAFF) - A woman was injured Tuesday morning and four other people were taken into custody after an alleged meth lab blew up in New Hope.

According to Madison County sheriff''s investigators on the scene of the incident, Niki Hornbuckle was burned by acid after pulling a hose from the homemade lab.

Hornbuckle then ran to a neighbor''s house to call 911.

Sgt. Dick with News Hope Police Department got the call around 9 Tuesday morning.

"Her words were they were gasing it off, the hose came loose and fluids and other chemical agents went about her person and she was transported," he said.

Hornbuckle was transported to Huntsville Hospital with non-lifethreatening chemical burns.

She was released from the hospital Wednesday and investigators say charges are pending.

Four people were taken into custody: 20-year-old James Love, 34-year-old Rickey Lewis, 44-year-old James Bolton, and 33-year-old Shawn Allen.

They''re charged with manufacturing controlled substance second degree. Their bonds are set at $500,000 each.

Several more homemade labs were found on the property where the accident occured, investigators said.

"There was a high fog inside the residence, all through the house, there were chemical agents," said Sgt. Dick.

Some families welcome the neighboring shut-down.

"That way you can feel secure when they (her nieces) go down that way and you won''t be afraid they will get into something," said Ashley Mason.

"Meth. I don''t know how to get rid of it but they need to find a way to get rid of it. The war on drugs in other countries ain''t working. They need to start the war right here in America," said Scott Steffen, a neighbor.

And Tuesday''s drug bust proves that war on meth in New Hope is underway.

The incoming police chief tells WAFF 48 News that he plans to crack down on meth right when he starts.
