Meth bust made at valley shopping center Print E-mail

(WAFF)- A meth lab was found inside a car in the middle of the day at a valley shopping center.

One man is in custody after police moved in on him at the Hampton Cove Wal-Mart in Huntsville Thursday Afternoon.

Drug agents with the Madison-Morgan County STAC Team and New Hope police said this bust is related to a meth bust Wednesday on Poplar Ridge Road in New Hope.

Wednesday afternoon, police found nine one-pot meth labs in New Hope. Police said one of the players involved with that lab is John Madewell.

Sergeant DeWayne McCarver with the Strategic Counter Drug Team said agents have been keeping a close eye on Madewell. Their surveillance led officers to Wal-Mart in Hampton Cove.

"A take-down was conducted. Once the take down was conducted, we found an active lab in that car," said McCarver.

An active lab that was near lots of vehicles, and several shoppers.

"It''s very scary with all these cars and people around. Someone could''ve been hurt," said Patti Richard, a shopper.

John Madewell is in the Madison County Jail. His bond is $500,000.
